Science Fair Tonight!

Come out tonight and celebrate Mary B. Lewis scholars!  Our Science Fair is open to the public tonight from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.  Come out to see how your child did in the Science Fair.  Winners will be announced tonight.

Science Fair Project Update

By now your project should be complete.  Your board and folder are due tomorrow morning at 9:15 am.  You WILL BE MARKED DOWN if you are late.  If you are absent YOU MUST make arrangements for your project to be here by 9:15 am tomorrow.  Projects will be on display next week in the cafeteria.  I will post the exact date and time later.

Science Fair Project Update

Your scholar has now brought home a Science Fair board that was purchased for them by the school.  Scholars should be in the process of constructing the board with the proper labels.  Labels will be given to each of them this week.  Make sure you refer the packet you were given in the beginning that shows you how to put it together.  Below are a few pictures of example projects.

Season’s Greetings STEM Challenge

In December, 6^th grade scholars will be completing a holiday themed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenge.  Here are some possible supplies that we would like to have donated in order to make the challenge a success.  Please help us out with whatever donations you can.  Thank you.

Mini marshmallows

Uncooked spaghetti noodles

Straws

Tape

Yarn

Marbles

Aluminum foil

Paper/Styrofoam cups

Empty paper towel/toilet paper tubes

Science Fair Update

All scholars should make a list of materials needed for their science fair project and gather those materials.  You should decide and list all off the procedures to be used.  Scholars should start experiments or your investigations now and collect the data.  If you have been following the outline I sent home you should be right on track.  Make sure you ask any questions you have in the next week or two.  All of you experiments will be due soon!  REMEMBER this project is worth 100 points in your science grade for the second semester.  It is vital that you do well!

Science Fair Projects

By now all scholars should be developing a purpose and hypothesis and should be conducting their research on the internet or public library.  Vacation time is a good time to head over to the library and get some research done.  You do not want to fall behind on this project.  I look forward to hearing all about your research when we return to school. 

Science Fair Papers

Today your child will bring home the two packets below.  They do not have to use the Science Fair Notebook packet, but the MUST have a Science Fair notebook turned in with their project.  They can use this packet for their notebook or use it as a guide.  The second packet that they will bring home today should look familiar.  This is their own copy of the Science Experiment Project.  They need to use this or handwrite out their own copy.  Their notes must be handwritten, not typed.  Please remember to take pictures of your experiment as you are conducting them.  You will use those for your notebook and boards.

Science Fair Problem to Investigate

Today your scholar brought home their "Science Fair Problem to Investigate" sheets.  They are to figure out the question they want to answer with their Science Fair Project and write it down on the paper.  All papers are due on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.  They do earn a grade for this, and their grade will go down 1 level each day it is late.  Below you will find pictures of both the English and Spanish copies of the form.

Science Fair!

It is that time of year again!  Science Fair Time!  Every scholar is required to complete a Science Fair project of their own this year.  This will account for 100 points of their Science grade.  Please take time to do every step with focus and care.  Today your scholar brought home a Science Fair packet that includes everything you need to get started on selecting your project.  Please sign the top page and return it tomorrow with your scholar.  The paper is worth 4 points and their score will go down 1 grade level every day the paper is late.  Below are pictures of the sheet I need returned in English and Spanish.  I also have included pictures of the Dates for the Science Fair.

Today we chose our partners for our Biomes Google Slides presentations.  Each group was assigned a Biome listed below.  They were all given the rubric and we had a discussion on what is expected from their projects.  The projects will be due in 3 weeks on November 7, 2014.

Last week we watched as Mrs. Clark presented her example of a Science Fair Project to all of our GATE scholars in the upper grades.  She did a wonder experiment on which paper towel brand was the strongest.  Below are a few pictures of her lesson.  You should all be thinking of an experiment for this year.

Science Fair Projects

I am sure that yesterday most of you had your scholars coming home talking about the science experiment that Mrs. Sitko demonstrated for them.  I posted pictures in my 180 Day Project.  Below are three examples of finished projects for our Science Fair.  The school has already purchased the project boards for every scholar.  All of the scholars were able to view them yesterday as well.  All of the GATE scholars will see three more science experiments from start to finish before they turn in their own.  All upper grade students MUST COMPLETE AN INDIVIDUAL Science Fair project.  If scholars want to enter a group project, they may, however it will not be graded.
